Back to school with Atlantic Academy Secondary & clubs that re-ignite their passion for learning & sense of adventure

For students at Atlantic Academy Portland the start of the school year is an opportunity to re-ignite their passion for learning and their sense of adventure. 

The all-through school, which currently has places available for Year 7 and Reception, September 2022 start, will see students engage in a broad range of enrichment activities with the aim to increase their wonder and curiosity about the world. 

A recent internal inspection by Dr Jeffery Quaye, Director of Education & Standards at Aspirations Academies Trust saw him conclude the school to be ‘’good with outstanding features.’’

From yoga sessions to debate club, Lego club and the launch of Atlantic’s first ever Beach School which will see outdoor activities that maximise the academy’s breathtaking location on the stunning Jurassic Coast – there is an activity or club to suit every child’s interests. 

The end of September will see Healthy Living Week and the unveiling of a new and fully furnished gym which will be free for all staff and students to use. 

Following on from an Open Evening earlier this month, day tours of the school are now scheduled for September and October. These will provide parents and carers with an opportunity to see lessons in action, talk to students, and view the wide-ranging facilities available.

A Diversity club will hold regular sessions throughout the school year and students will also enjoy participating in the newly created Portland Youth Town Council to build on their sense of community and give them a flavour of political life.

Lesley Bishop, Principal of Atlantic Secondary, said: ‘’Alongside a full academic curriculum, we have a packed timetable of enrichment activities to nurture and stimulate our students and complement the learning that takes place in the classroom.’’

Melissa Heppell, Principal of Atlantic Primary, added: ‘’It’s wonderful to have our new Reception classes join our Atlantic family and to be able to once again offer our students the full Atlantic experience including celebrating our wonderful island exploring the natural surroundings beyond the classroom.’’
