Aspirations Academies Trust and Budmouth Academy wish to dispose of a strip of land being 2046m2 to the rear of the Budmouth Academy shown edged red on the plan below, to the adjoining landowner (at that boundary). The proposed land to be disposed of is largely made up of a natural drainage ditch from which the adjoining landowner benefits. The adjoining owner wishes to take ownership and responsibility of this drainage ditch.
Reason for Consultation
The land to be sold is considered as soft informal playing field as this is a grass/natural drainage ditch. The Academy currently has 102,798m2 of playing field land. Any land considered ‘playing field’ on a school site requires approval by the Secretary of State under Section 77 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 and Part 1 of Schedule 1 to the Academies Act 2010. As part of the application, the Secretary of State requires that a period of consultation is undertaken prior to any submission. The period of consultation is 6 weeks.
Benefits for schools from the disposal
The legislation requires that any capital receipt which is received from the disposal of a school playing field is reinvested into the Academy. Any monies received from the sale of this land will be reinvested into the Academy, preferably for the purpose of sports and recreation.
Additional Information
This consultation does not constitute a decision to dispose of any land. The Trust are seeking the views of the local community on the proposed disposal of 2046m2 of land at the Academy. Further information regarding the proposed land for disposal is available below, including a further copy of the plan and photographs of the area.
